GUZELYURT VILLAGE

Gelveri

Known also as Karballa or Gelveri, Guzelyurt was a wealthy Ottoman-Greek town famous in farming and goldsmithing. The League of Nations population exchange after World War I; took its hundreds of Greek-speaking families to Greece and brought Muslim families from the Greek towns to re-populate the city. Today it is preserved by law from modern development that does not fit its character. Buyuk Kilise Camii (The Great Church Mosque) which was built in 1896 as the Church of St Gregory is worth visiting.

The village is one of the best photography spots in Cappadocia with its amazing scenery at sunset!
