Tonight is the night which meets the 5th May to the 6th May. When Khidr and Elijah meet, a couple of stars collide in the sky. One of the stars in rolling comes from the Maghreb, the other from eternal orient… As soon as they collide; they grow, flourish and pour down the ground in blossom. All in the world stays still and die at the same time. No pulse… The Wind doesn’t blow, waters don’t flow, no leaf wriggles, the birds, insects never take wing. Everything ceases at once. No noise, even no sleep… The blooming of the flowers and growing of grasses halt. The creatures die, locomotion of still-life and the whole life ends. For a while, everything dies… At that time, if a man sees the stars collide and pour down the ground and all the flowing waters in silent and still, exactly at that whatever he/she wants comes true. Even if it is impossible to be done ever; it comes true… If Khidr and Elijah never meet at the night which merges the 5th May to the 6th May and the world don’t die at the meeting of them, the flowers never and ever bloom, the existents don’t revive it anymore, procreators never give birth. Once they meet, everything within the land dies suddenly, afterward; the life renews in abundance.
Yasar Kemal, while he is writing out the love story of Halil and charming beauty, Ceren in The Legend of the Thousand Bulls, he describes “Hidirellez” night in those sentences. Happy Hidirellez Night to you all!
